Q. Do you accept big groups to have dinner in your bistro?
A. We have a limited number of tables and a small team working here, so we can only accommodate groups of up to 4 people and we don’t split big groups in different tables. This policy allows us to provide a calm environment and give personalised attention to each guest.
Q. Do you accept early reservations?
A. Reservations are available 4 weeks in advance. This policy helps us ensure that all tables are utilised efficiently and that all guests have the opportunity to dine with us.
Q. I've tried calling you multiple times this morning with no luck. I would like to make a reservation.
A. Before calling, please be aware that we are only open for dinner from Thursday to Monday, between 6pm and midnight. We do not have staff available to answer calls around the clock. Alternatively, you can easily book a table online here.
Q. Which credit cards do you accept?
A. We do not accept credit or debit cards as a form of payment at Taberna Folias de Baco. Our bistro is cash only, like several other small businesses in Portugal. This decision was made in order to keep our prices affordable and competitive. Credit or debit card processing fees can be quite high for small businesses in Portugal, and by not accepting them, we are able to avoid these extra costs and pass the savings on to our customers in the form of lower prices and to our team in the form of better incomes. We are located in the historic center of Porto and there are many cash machines around us.
Q. Do you have terrace?
A. We do not offer outdoor seating or tables outside. However, our indoor dining area is designed to provide a cozy and comfortable environment for our guests to enjoy their meal. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that all customers feel comfortable and well taken care of during their visit. Taberna Folias de Baco is equipped with air conditioning to ensure a comfortable dining experience for our guests, no matter the weather outside.
Q. What are your main dishes?
A. At our bistro, we specialise in serving small dishes - in Portugal we call them “petiscos” - that are meant to be shared among diners. We do not offer traditional main dishes, but rather a variety of smaller plates that are perfect for sampling and enjoying with others. Our menu is designed to encourage a shared dining experience, allowing guests to try a diverse selection of flavours and dishes together. Please check our menu here.
Q. Do you have a special menu for New Year’s Eve?
A. At our establishment, we believe that New Year's Eve, Christmas and public holidays are special occasions meant to be spent with loved ones. As such, we will be closed on these days to allow our staff to celebrate with their families and friends. For more information, please check the Portuguese calendar of festivities and holidays. However, we may make an exception and announce that we will be open on social media, so stay tuned for updates.
Q. What do you mean by natural wines? Aren’t all wines natural?
A. Natural wine is a term used to describe a specific type of wine that is made with minimal intervention in the winemaking process. This means that natural wines are typically made with organic or biodynamically-grown grapes, and have little to no added sulphites, chemicals, or additives.
While all wines are made from fermented grapes, not all wines can be considered natural. Many conventional wines are made with added sulphites, additives, and manipulated in various ways during production to achieve a certain flavour profile or shelf stability.
Natural wines, on the other hand, are made with the intention of preserving the natural flavours and characteristics of the grapes, with the belief that minimal intervention leads to a more authentic and expressive wine. These wines are often described as having a distinct taste, with vibrant fruit flavours and a unique sense of terroir. In our bistro you’re going to have the privilege to taste a big range of natural wines produced in our winery.
